Construction Site Hazards
Scaffolding
Falls from scaffolding are common accidents, they are the second leading cause of death of construction workers. Not only can they be potentially dangerous to construction workers but also pedestrians walking under or around them and people driving near them. Plank slippage is a risk when using scaffolding, as is improper construction and poor maintenance.
Ladders
Improper use of ladders may cause it to slip or move, jarring the worker and causing them to fall. If ladders are unsteady or shaky because they are not place evenly on the ground, workers could possibly fall while climbing up or down them. Ladders can also be dangerous if the weight limit is not abided by.
Steel Rebars
Oftentimes steel rebars are left uncapped and pose a threat to workers who stumble over them or possible even fall on them, potentially being impaled upon them, which can be deadly.
Power Tools
Operators are often not aware of proper operating procedures of power tools, making the use of them dangerous. Also the use of several power tools at once by multiple workers can lead to hearing loss. Paint guns and nail guns are just two examples of power tools that can cause harm. Paint sprayed from paint guns can actually be injected into workers skin tissue, possibly leading to amputation. Nail guns shoot nail so forcefully they can penetrate concrete at a rate of 1400 feet per second. Many power tools are not provided with adequate warning labels and instructions.
Floor and Wall Holes, Unprotected Edges
All of these situations raise the likelihood of a deadly fall, and these conditions are not uncommon.
